Our Curriculum at Pilton Infants
We have designed our progressive History curriculum to provide a broad and balanced view of the history of Britain and other societies. By gaining a well-rounded knowledge of the past and its events, children will develop their cultural capital. They will also deepen their understanding of the world around them and their own heritage.
Through engaging topics, our aim is to inspire children to become historians. By teaching History in an exciting and meaningful way, we aim to stimulate all children’s curiosity and understanding about the lives of people in the past.
As children move from the Early Years into Key Stage One, they will develop their historical vocabulary and enquiry skills. They will explore different types of sources, identify similarities and differences across time periods, and begin to form their own opinions and interpretations of the past.
In Reception, children will learn what ‘past’ and ‘present’ mean, and begin to compare aspects of the past with the present. In Year One, they will explore the role of a monarch and how this has changed over time. They will also learn about their local area and how it has changed over the past 100 years. In Year Two, children will build on their historical knowledge by researching significant individuals at a local, national, and international level.
