In Maths this week, we have been further practising our subitising skills. We placed objects into frames to match the patterns found on a dice. We started with 5 objects before moving on to 6 and 7 objects.
In Art, we have been practising shading and blending techniques to draw noses and lips. We explored how to use different pencil pressures to create light and dark tones and blended our shading to make our drawings look more realistic. This helped us to add detail and improve the overall quality of o...
In English, we have been learning about the past tense and using -ed word endings. We listened carefully to the end of each word, as some -ed endings are pronounced differently. We then applied this knowledge when writing sentences, using the sounds to help us spell the words correctly.
We enjoyed learning all about how to programme a Beebot. First, we predicted what might happen using a paper bot. Next, we checked our algorithms by programming a real Beebot. Finally, we played a game using random command cards to predict where the Beebot would go.
This term in Year 1 Music, we are deepening our understanding of beat and rhythm through percussion instruments. The children enjoyed their first lesson using djembe drums, where they explored rhythm through call and response. They listened carefully and repeated patterns played by Mrs Powley, devel...
In Maths, we have begun learning about teen numbers. We used Numicon to represent these numbers and explore their value. We learnt that the first digit in a teen number represents 10. For example, 13 is made up of 10 and 3.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World- Reception Class.
In Knowledge and Understanding of the World, we have been learning about different types of vehicles. We have been focusing on wheeled vehicles and are getting ready to design and make our own using the shoeboxes we have been collecting. We began by drawing our vehicle designs, carefully thinking ab...
This week in Computing, the children have been exploring algorithms by using the same instructions in different orders. They worked with paper Beebots and mats to test and create their own algorithms, learning how important it is to give clear and precise instructions. We also saw some fantastic tea...
In Maths Club, the children have been enjoying exploring the Numberblocks. They have been learning to recognise numbers by putting the Numberblocks in the correct order and matching each Numberblock to its corresponding numeral. Through hands-on activities and games, the children have also been prac...
We have been exploring different forms of technology and have begun using laptops in class. We learnt how to use the trackpad as a mouse and successfully log on independently. Over the coming weeks, we will continue developing our skills by opening and using programs such as Paint and Word.
This week in Year 1, we explored shading and how to add light and dark to our sketches. The children experimented with different ways of holding their pens and discovered how this affected the shade and texture of their mark making.
We finished with a gallery walk, where the children viewed...
Now that our clay tiles have dried completely, we are ready to decorate them using our special paint. We are using acrylic ink to carefully colour each tile. We chose bright, shiny colours because they help the leaf prints stand out clearly and make the designs more eye-catching. We are taking our t...
