Year 1 - Maths

In Maths, we have been developing our pattern spotting skills between numbers and using what we already know to help us solve new number sentences. For example, if we know that 6 + 2 = 8, then we can work out that 16 + 2 = 18 because there is an extra 10. The children were excellent at explaining that the 1 at the start of our teen numbers represents 10, which helped them make these connections.

We also recapped our number bonds to 10 and used this knowledge to help us find number bonds to 20. The children showed great confidence in using what they know to solve new problems and explaining their thinking clearly.
