Dear parents and carers,
We’ve loved the sunny end to the week to send us into half-term. On Tuesday, we also loved meeting GB Winter Olympian, Leon Greenwood, for our Sports for Champions event. Leon recently competed in the Winter Olympics in Italy. Leon led an inspiring assembly where he talked about his progression through sport and the many setbacks he had overcome to work towards his goals. The children thought that he was very much like our learning heroes, particularly Bobby Bounce Back, Carly Can Do and Timmy Teamworker. Leon was a great role model as well as being fun and friendly. He embodied his motto of ‘Visualise it. Work for it. Make it happen.’

After the assembly, each class joined Leon to complete their activity circuits. The circuits were hard work with squat jumps, press-ups, high knees and star jumps! All the children had a good go, worked hard and supported each other. Hopefully, one day, we may have an Olympian who started their school journey at Pilton Infants’ Academy.
On Thursday, we had a visit from one of the members of our local governing body. Our focus was writing in Year 2. We looked at writing within English books as well as across the curriculum in subjects like history, geography, science and religion and world views. We could see lots of evidence in all subjects of good writing habits developing and embedding. We also spoke to three Year 2 children who were very enthusiastic about their writing and how the staff help them improve.
Wednesday afternoon was exciting for our Year 2 pupils as they met their Year 5 buddies. This is an important point in their transition to Year 3 and gives them an older role model and point of contact when they begin Year 3.
A reminder that the Department for Education have released a parent and carer survey as part of a national consultation – Growing up in the Online World. If you would like to complete the survey, here is the link: Parent and Carer survey
The consultation closes on 26 May 2026.
Have a lovely half-term. We look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday 2nd June.
Best wishes,

John Mortimer, Head of School
