Dear parents and carers,
We started this week with an OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) assembly. We praised the children for the great play that we’ve seen lately involving teamwork, sharing and some amazing imagination. We also reminded the children about some of our safety and tidying expectations around lunchtimes. A small group of Year 2 children have been put in charge of tidying the gutters and tyres each day. They’re taking the role seriously and doing a fantastic job!
The Year 1 classes had a great time at their Multiskills Festival on Wednesday at Pilton Community College. Despite some heavy rain in the morning, it stayed dry. The children represented the school very well and enjoyed meeting some other children of their own age as well as the Year 7 Sports Leaders.
Squirrel Class also had an extra PE session with me on Thursday morning. As the most active class in the recent Big Walk and Wheel event, their prize was a PE session with Mr Mortimer. Their teamwork, resilience and planning skills were excellent as they faced the river crossing challenge!

The Department for Education have released a parent and carer survey as part of a national consultation – Growing up in the Online World. If you would like to complete the survey, here is the link: Parent and Carer survey
The consultation closes on 26 May 2026.
We’ve been contacted by the Ward Councillor and local residents about an ongoing issue with members of the public parking in resident parking permit spaces, on double yellow or zigzag yellow lines and partially on pavements. This is happening on and around Abbey Road during normal school pick-up and drop-off times as well as at the end of after-school clubs.
We need to keep everyone safe on their way to and from school as well as being considerate of local residents within our community. Please, at all times, only park where it’s legally permissible and do remember that all families are entitled to two permits for free parking in Fairview Car Park during pick-up and drop-off times. Permits are available from the school office.
Also, just a reminder that registration starts at 8.55am. The vast majority of children are here on time each day, thank you. To ensure that all children get off to a great start with their day, please make sure that all children are here on time.
Finally, as many of you will have seen in the local news and on social media, there is a large-scale search underway for Taylor Charlton, a missing teenager from Barnstaple. As a former pupil of Pilton Infants', we are really hoping that Taylor is found safe and well soon. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
Best wishes,

John Mortimer
