Learning for Life

Dear parents and carers,

We hope you all enjoyed the bank holiday weekend.  It’s been a short but busy week in school with lots of great learning taking place.

On Wednesday, I was lucky enough to spend the morning at Beaford School.  This is another school within TEAM Multi-Academy Trust and I joined two other leaders from across the trust to review the Humanities, Religion and World Views.  It was really interesting to speak to pupils and staff, look at books and explore their curriculum.  There were some similarities in the way we work and some of the topics that we teach, as well as some interesting ideas to explore further.

Thursday was a very busy day in school as we had three candidates in school interviewing for a teaching position in September.  Mr Daunton will be reducing from five days to three days from September, so we are in the process of recruiting a partner teacher for him.  We interviewed three people on Thursday and we have a further candidate to interview next week.  The children were very much involved.  The candidates taught in Year 1, led a group activity with some Reception children and were grilled by the school council!  We were very impressed with the candidates and they were very impressed with our pupils.  We look forward to completing the interview process next week.

In other staffing news, Mrs Long has started her maternity leave slightly early.  We wish her the best of luck and hope that she’ll pop in to see us once her new baby arrives and things are settled.  Miss Oreshko will be covering Mrs Long’s maternity in Owl Class and Mrs Hanshaw will be teaching five days per week to cover in Kingfisher Class.

Next week we’re looking forward to the Year 1 Multiskills Festival at Pilton Community College on Wednesday.

Finally, just a little reminder.  Can children please leave toys and other ‘treasures’ from home at home.  We’re having a few things coming into school which causes arguments and upset if they get lost or broken.

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes,

John Mortimer

The children have been asked to take part in a colouring competition run by the School Council. The colouring will go home for you to complete with your child. When complete, please bring it back to your class teacher with £1 and please make sure it is named. We look forward to seeing your colouring – the school council will judge the colouring on the 21st May, so please make sure it is in school by then! There will be prizes in each year group. Good luck!
