Learning for Life

Dear parents and carers,

The Spring Term has passed very quickly and we have arrived at the Easter break.  The children, and staff, have continued to work hard this term and there has been lots of progress made and lots to look back on and be proud of.  We look forward to continuing that momentum after the holiday.

The final results from the Big Walk and Wheel are in.  We surpassed last year’s total of 884 active journeys with ease, this year clocking an amazing 1063 active journeys across 10 days.  Our daily average score was 69.11% active journeys.  Overall, we finished 149th out of 1072 medium-sized primary schools, which is very respectable.  And, finally, our winning class with the most active journeys was… SQUIRREL Class with 272 active journeys!  Well done Squirrel Class.  Your prize is an extra PE lesson with Mr Mortimer at the start of the summer term.

We now know our Sports for Champions athlete ahead of our event on the 23rd April.  Our visiting athlete will be GB Freestyle Kayaker Rebekah Green!  You can read her bio – here - https://sportsforchampions.com/athletes/rebekah-green/

We’re really looking forward to the event.  Please keep raising sponsorship if you can.  All sponsorship money and forms need to be in by Tuesday 21st April.

A big thank you to our small but mighty PTFA team for organising the Easter Fayre yesterday.  They raised a fantastic £274 to support the school.  Thank you for supporting the event.  It certainly looked like everyone was enjoying the cakes.

In our celebration assembly today, we also celebrated those children who have managed 100% attendance for the Spring term. 29 children have done very well to attend everyday since January.  Currently, we also have 16 children with 100% attendance for the whole year.  We are also looking at how we can measure, recognise and celebrate those children who have made significant improvements in their attendance.

We have lots to look forward to next term.  The summer term is always busy with lots of great learning, good weather (hopefully) and exciting events such as trips and sports days.  We’re looking forward to getting the term started with our Ambition project from Monday 20th April.  We look forward to seeing you all then.

We hope you all have a lovely Easter break.

Best wishes,

John Mortimer

Easter Cards - Reception
We have been busy making Easter cards this week. We did some fingerprinting onto the front of our cards and then we added more details to make the prints look like chicks. We learnt that cards always open with the fold on the left side, so we were careful to make sure our cards were the right way ar...

Nest cakes - Reception
We have enjoyed making Easter nest cakes this week. We learnt about solids and liquids. We had solid chocolate at the beginning, which we heated up to turn it into liquid chocolate. Once the chocolate was liquid, we mixed it with the other ingredients and then put the mixture into the fridge, so the...

Which materials makes the best curtains? - Year 1
We have been testing which materials we believe make the best curtains in Year 1. We tested cling film, foil, cotton and card. We learned about opaque and transparent materials. We then used a torch to test if it let the light through. We wouldn't want transparent materials as it would let...

Year 2 - English
In English this week, some of us started learning about adverbs.  These are words which describe verbs and show where, when and how we do things.  You can see some examples in the photos and how the children have been changing the meaning of sentences by changing the adverbs.  We used...

Maths in Year 2
This week we are finishing off our learning on division and multiplication by making links with our learning between the two. We have learnt all about how we use the same numbers, but in a different order depending on the story. We worked as Timmy Teamworkers to match the division sentence with...

Celebration of Achievements

Isaac passed his first ever martial arts grading assessment this weekend. He is now a proud purple belt!

Mr Daunton has been very supportive and had to sign off his discipline report to say he has been respectful of his peers as part of it, which has been lovely and really motivated Isaac.
