Dear parents and carers,
We’ve had the perfect weather for week one of our active travel challenge: The Big Walk and Wheel. We’re trying to get as many children as possible walking, scooting or cycling to school for two weeks as part of this national schools challenge. We had an assembly at the beginning of the week, where we focussed on the reasons why,
active travel is a positive choice:
- Active travel is great exercise and helps us to stay healthy.
- Active travel wakes our brains and our bodies up, ready for learning.
- Active travel is fun!
- More people travelling actively means less people in cars, which means cleaner air, less traffic and less noise around our school.
We’ve been logging all the journeys this week in school and we’re off to a good start. Let’s try and get everyone travelling actively next week. If you live too far away to walk, scoot or cycle the whole journey, you can park at Fairview Car park and walk, scoot or cycle the rest of the way.
Continuing on an active theme, we are holding a Sports for Champions event after Easter. We have held several of these events in the past and the children have always loved them. We will be visited by an aspiring athlete or para-athlete. The athlete will lead an assembly for the whole school to talk about their achievements and their determination and resilience to get there. Each class will then take part in a sponsored fitness circuit with the athlete. The children will bring home a sponsorship form today which contains more details. The money raised is split between the school and Sports for Champions to support athletes.
Red Nose Day has been very colourful today. The children have enjoyed wearing their home clothes, and we have raised £181.14 so far for this worthy cause. Thank you for your support.
Year 1 are looking forward to their trip to RHS Rosemoor next week and we also have some of our Year 2s visiting Portmill Court on Monday afternoon.
Also, next week we have Martin Brice coming to visit us on Tuesday to deliver a whole school assembly and cricket workshops for every year group.
Finally, this week, for all of our staff, pupils and families celebrating Eid today, we would like to wish you “Eid Mubarak” (blessed Eid).
Have a lovely weekend everybody. We look forward to seeing you on Monday.
Best wishes,

John Mortimer
