Dear parents and carers,
It’s been a wonderfully busy week this week in school with lots of fantastic events taking place.
On Monday, as part of British Science week, Mrs Hanshaw led our assembly and got the children excited about science. Also on Monday, Year 2 visited Barnstaple Library and had a great morning learning about the different parts of the library and the types of books and records held there as well as other, very child-friendly, activities that take place there on a regular basis. It’s a fantastic local resource and has lots of clubs and events for children throughout the year, most of which are free.
The Reception children visited Quince Honey Farm on Tuesday and had an amazing time. They learned lots about honey, bees and the importance of bees for the environment. The children enjoyed tasting different honeys and rolling their own candle.
A big thank you to all the staff who put lots of extra time into planning these events. A big thank you also to the parent helpers who make the trips possible.
It was fantastic to see so many of you at the reading workshops this week. We really hope that you found them useful. The children loved coming in and having the chance to do some reading with you in school. We know that it can sometimes feel difficult to know how to help and encourage with reading at home, particularly if your child finds reading challenging, which affects their enjoyment. We hope that the workshops have helped with this and given you some clear advice and simple steps on how to support your child/children’s reading. Again, a big thank you to the staff, particularly Mrs Powley our English lead, for organising and leading these meetings. A huge thank you to you as well for giving your time to come in. We hope to run similar events in the future. If you have any feedback, please let us know.
Next Friday we’ll be supporting Red Nose Day with a non-uniform day to raise money.
Have a great weekend.
Best wishes,

John Mortimer
