Learning for Life

Dear parents and carers,

We have had a brilliant week celebrating all things reading, culminating in World Book Day on Thursday.  Thank you for all your hard work in getting the children into some amazing costumes – there was evidence of a lot of hard work!  The children (and staff) enjoyed showing them off during our costume parade in the hall.

We loved welcoming Rob Holmes, author, to our school on Tuesday.  Each year group thoroughly enjoyed their sessions with Rob and found out about his books as well as a little insight into the life of an author.  I’m sure we have some aspiring authors within the school.

We hope the children have all been reading hard at home and collecting some sponsors.  There were certainly a lot of reading certificates to give out in this morning’s assembly.  The sponsored read is a great fundraiser for getting new books and other related activities for the school.  Once again, thank you for your support.

Our assembly this week was a Jigsaw (PSHE) focussed assembly on keeping healthy.  I showed the children some pictures of things we could do with or to our bodies and we worked together to decide if they were things that we should do every day, some days or never.  The children were generally very good at this.  Some of the examples were:

  • Every day – Eat fruit and vegetables, sleep, exercise our bodies
  • Some days – Eat fast food, drink fizzy drinks, play on computer games
  • Never – smoking and vaping.

We hope you have found our Family evenings helpful this week.  The classroom teachers certainly have.  At the half-way point in the school year it is a great opportunity to discuss the progress made so far as well as any challenges and next steps for the remainder of the school year.  For those children on the SEN register, it has also been a good chance to discuss their latest plans and targets.  Thank you for finding the time to come in.

Next week we have lots to look forward to as well:

  • The Year 2 library trip on Monday – we certainly love reading!
  • Reception’s trip to Quince Honey Farm on Tuesday
  • Parent reading workshops – please come along with any reading-related questions you may have.  We want to make reading at home as straightforward and fun as possible.
    • Year 1 reading workshop – Tuesday
    • Year 2 reading workshop – Wednesday
    • Reception reading workshop – Thursday

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes,

John Mortimer

Bee-Bots -Year 2
We enjoyed using the Bee-Bot app this week and applying everything we have learnt about algorithms with the real-life Bee-Bots. Using the app was a little trickier because we had to keep the algorithm in our heads rather than writing it down. It also meant that we needed to plan and remember the who...

Celebration of Achievements

Oaklen has successfully completed Stage 2 swimming and is now moving up to Stage 3. This is a wonderful achievement and reflects the confidence, skill and determination he has shown in the pool. Throughout Stage 2, Oaklen worked hard on developing his basic stroke techniques, improving his water confidence and strengthening his ability to move independently through the water.

Advancing to Stage 3 is an exciting next step, where he will continue building endurance, refining his strokes and developing even greater control and coordination. We are so proud of his effort and commitment, and we can’t wait to see him continue to grow and thrive in his swimming journey.

Congratulations, Oaklen — keep making waves! 🌊🏊

🎹 Congratulations Frank! 🎉

Mrs Buckley is very proud of Frank, who has successfully completed his very first piano book! This is a wonderful achievement and a big milestone in his musical journey.

Learning to play the piano takes patience, practice, and dedication and Frank has shown all three. Finishing a piano book is a fantastic accomplishment and a sign of all the hard work he has put in.

Wow! Well done, Frank! We can’t wait to hear the beautiful music you continue to create. Keep up the great work! 🌟
