Dear parents and carers,
It is hard to believe that it is half-term already! The last six weeks, despite being very wet, have flown by. The children have continued to work hard and make some pleasing progress. We’re now approximately halfway through this academic year, so we will keep working hard, through this second half of the year, to support the children to become better learners and ensure they’re ready for the next academic year.
Tuesday was Safer Internet Day. Mrs Haynes led a whole school assembly for us, where the children and adults discussed and shared what they like doing online. Mrs Haynes also highlighted to the children some of the dangers to be aware of, such as, not talking to strangers online, not sharing personal information and not clicking on pop-ups which often have offers that seem too good to be true.
Some children did mention playing games which have an older age rating than them. We understand that, particularly when there are older siblings in the house, it can be difficult to manage this and avoid children seeing or hearing these games. However, it is very important that they do. The content and language is often inappropriate and children at this age do not have the emotional maturity to understand it and to separate reality from fiction. The online world is a wonderful resource and gives everyone a lot of opportunities. We just need, as always, to ensure our children are safely exploring.
A great example that we’ve shared with his peers this week, is a wonderful video which Oliver in Year 2 has made inspired by his topic, last term, on dinosaurs. It involved him getting out and filming at some lovely places in the local area and then, through the wonders of technology, adding some very realistic dinosaurs to the clips! Well done Oliver – I think you may have a career in films ahead of you!
We’ve got lots to look forward to next half-term including:
- Family evening (parent/carer) consultations
- Book and a biscuit events
- World Book Week
- Trips out for every year group
- Active travel week
- Red Nose day
Finally, a big thank you to the PTFA for organising this afternoon’s bake sale and costume swap.
Have a lovely half-term and we look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 23rd February.
Best wishes,

John Mortimer
