Dear parents and carers,
First of all this week, I’d like to say a big ‘THANK YOU’ to all of you who have attended the various parent/carer events this week – our first coffee morning of the year, the Year 1 and Year 2 reading workshops and this afternoon’s OPAL parents meeting. School and family working together will make a massive difference to the progress children make. We know it’s not always possible, with work and other commitments, but we really appreciate you coming in when you can. We also know that it can feel quite daunting to come into some of these events, particularly on your own. So again, thank you for coming.
We hope that you found the events helpful. We have more coming up. Feedback is always helpful, so if there is something you would be interested in, which we’re not currently running, then do let us know as it might be something we can facilitate.
Parent events already in the calendar:
- Thursday 22nd October at 3.00pm – Reception Reading Workshop for parents in the school hall
- Wednesday 4th November – parents open evening – visit your child’s class to see how they are settling in to their new year group. An opportunity to speak to the teachers.
- Wednesday 2nd December – time TBC – parent and child Christmas Craft coffee morning/afternoon.
- Christmas performance dates will be confirmed soon.
Finally this week, we’ve had a great selection of odd socks today for our Odd Sock Day raising money for the NSPCC. We’ve raised £117 to support the amazing work that the NSPCC do in helping to keep children safe. Odd Sock Day marked the end of our Kindness Challenge week. Each class has had a bucket of kindness challenges to complete and add to. We’ve learned about how those little things such as holding the door for someone, saying ‘good morning’ and just a smile, can make a big difference. Of course, this isn’t the end of our kindness in school – we are sure that, from focussing on kindness this week, that we’re building or reinforcing great habits that will carry on throughout the rest of the year.
Have a lovely weekend.
Best wishes,

John Mortimer
