Dear parents and carers,
We have had several visitors in school over the past couple of weeks who have been very impressed with our children.
On Monday, Mrs Haynes was hosting a maths training day for some teachers from other local schools. The teachers all worked together to plan a lesson which Mrs Haynes then taught whilst the other teachers observed. As it was Dinosaur Day in Year 2, they planned a lesson for Owl Class, Year 1, on exploring ways to make the numbers 6 and 7. Mrs Haynes and the visitors fed back that the children in Owl Class were outstanding in the lesson. They joined in, showed some great learning behaviours and left the visitors very impressed! Well done Owl Class.
Last week we had two authors visit us from The Appledore Book Festival. Duncan Beedle visited Reception and John Dougherty visited Year 1. The children thoroughly enjoyed the visits and the authors were very impressed. One of the organisers of the festival who accompanied John fed back about Squirrel and Owl classes:
Both classes were beautifully behaved, enthusiastic and engaged. They are a credit to you all. John thoroughly enjoyed sharing his poems, songs and stories and found it very rewarding and inspiring.
It is wonderful to get such positive feedback from visitors and makes us very proud of the children. We look forward to having lots more visitors. A big thank you also to Mrs Powley for organising the author visits.
Next week we’ll be launching our annual Kindness Challenge for the NSPCC on Monday. A separate letter with more information will be coming out. A few other things coming up next week for your diaries:
- Tuesday – Tempest photography will be in taking individual photos of the children
- Tuesday at 3pm – Year 2 Reading Workshop for parents in the school hall
- Wednesday at 9am – Parent coffee morning in the school hall. Please drop in for a cuppa.
- Thursday at 3pm – Year 1 Reading Workshop for parents in the school hall
- Friday at 3pm – OPAL introduction for parents – come and find out about our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) lunchtimes with Kate from OPAL
Finally this week, it was great to see the return of the Golden Welly Award in our celebration assembly today. The Golden Welly is given out to an individual, group or class who has done something brilliant during lunchtimes each week. The new award is even more dazzling than last years!
Have a super weekend.
Best wishes,

John Mortimer
