Dear parents and carers,
We hope you had a lovely half-term. It’s been lovely to welcome the children back into school and they’ve generally settled back in well to their learning. We’ve also enjoyed the dry sunny weather at times during the week.
Our assembly this week focussed on the British values of tolerance, respect and individual liberty. We explain these things to the children and give examples such as:
Respect
- Being kind and being fair to everyone
- Showing respect for people, places and things, for example, using kind words and kind hands, helping to keep places tidy and looking after toys and equipment
- Being respectful helps us to feel safe and helps others to feel safe.
Liberty
- Each of us having the freedom to make our own choices and do what we want, within the laws or rules.
- Respecting the rights of other people to make their own choices too.
- For example, we can choose our own lunch option at school, but we cannot tell our friends what they have to have.
Tolerance
- We are all different – everyone is special in their own way.
- We can talk to, play with and work with people, even if we don’t like the same things.
- We can talk to, play with and work with people who are different to us.
- For example, Mr Mortimer has blue eyes and likes broccoli. If he only talks to other people who have blue eyes and like broccoli, life will be a bit boring and he will miss out on meeting lots of amazing people.
Our attendance is gradually creeping back up. This week Year 2 and Year 1 have been more affected by Chicken Pox and other bugs which are currently circulating. The NHS website has a really useful guide on whether or not you should send your child to school if they are feeling unwell – Is my child to ill for school?
Next week we have World Book Day on Thursday. We’re looking forward to seeing some fantastic costumes. We love reading so we’re celebrating a whole week of books. We have the sponsored read taking place all week, author Rob Holmes is visiting on Tuesday to work with all the children and we have some fun events lined up for Thursday.
We also have Family Evenings (parent/carer consultations) next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. If you haven’t booked your appointment yet, please visit your child’s Arbor account to do so. Please speak to the office if you need assistance.
Have a great weekend.
Best wishes,

John Mortimer
